GPG Overview Writeup Plan - Week 1

Filed under: Adam Thorsen — Adam Thorsen @ 1:09 a.m.

I plan two address item one from #ossasepia over the following week, with the goal of completing it by Tues, Oct. 1st. My report will cover:

- What is the GPG WoT?
- How does it work?
- Why does it work?

For the purposes of this report, I will take "How does it work?" to mean to explain via examples its proper use. I will take "Why does it work" to mean to explain the underlying principles that allow it to function. I will take "What is the GPG WoT" to mean to describe the components of the WoT and how they fit together.

  1. The WoT and GPG are 2 different things really. Your focus for this task is the WoT and considering the confusion here, you really have to figure out first what this is and how it's used. You might find my intro talk of Bitcoin useful as a starting point at least but mind that you actually digest what you read, not just skim over.

See the reference WoT article. Follow the links from there, read also in #o the explanations Shreyas got as he was struggling to digest this (e.g. http://logs.ossasepia.com/log-search?q=wot&chan=ossasepia) and then ask to discuss it further in #o if you need to.

  2. Thank you for the links. I will read them. I admit digestion is a problem for me. I have taken some measures to attempt to improve my reading comprehension in the past, such as studying Greek, and using an etymological dictionary when looking up words. It is apparent I'm missing something though.

One thing I haven't been good about is re-reading, especially larger texts. Also I see many people take notes when reading, but I have never known exactly what to write, should I be reading with a notebook handy.

  3. Hm, let's see the basics then since otherwise there's no way to tell what/where is broken/missing but by the sounds of it, it's very likely way lower than etymology/Greek.

Put this task on hold because it's too tall for you at the moment. Do instead this:

    - write a 400 (+/- 50) words long summary of http://thewhet.net/2013/09/your-feelings-are-out-to-get-you/

Your deadline for it is this Sunday, 29th September. Publish it on your blog.
